Book Stores
Welcome back! Today's blog is great for anyone who enjoys dogs and reading. We're talking about dog friendly book stores. There's two major book stores that allow dogs into their stores, and that is Barnes and Noble, and Half-Price Books.
Many business's did not allow dogs and other animals in the past unless it was registered as a service dog. More people want to bring their animals with them when out and about, so things are changing.
Businesses are accommodating to our pets, especially dogs. According to the American Pet Products Association, in 2014 the pet industry was a $60 billion business. The number of pets in the country exceeds the number of people.
As with any new adventures for a dog, it's best to begin small working your way up. That was, they can gradually become comfortable. Before taking your dog into a business, it's good to start them at an outdoor mall or another area with pedestrian traffic and walk around. If your dog seems to get stressed out, find a place to sit, relax, and let the dog observe. This will get them used to being around people without any conflicts.
Your dog may not know how to read but you probably never thought reading to your dog has benefits. (Especially for children!)
1) Dogs are non-judgemental, so there's no need to be self conscious (scottishbooktrust.com)
2) Reading aloud can increase literacy skills (DallasNews.com)
3) When reading to dogs, children's attitudes about reading became more positive (Now.Tufts.edu)
In the case of Barnes and Noble, dogs are allowed in the bookstore. In most Barnes and Nobles there are cafes. Dogs and other animals are not allowed in the coffee shops or cafes.
