Cat Cafe, California

Welcome back! This week's blog is about a cat cafe. Cat cafe's originated in Taiwan. The first cat cafe opened in 1998. They became popular because many apartments would not allow pets. Cat cafes gave people the chance to interact with cats.

This cafe is called "The Cat Cafe" and it is located in downtown San Diego, California. It opened in January 2015 and feature's several other business's food. They sell espresso drinks from "Cafe Virtuoso",  drip coffee roasted by "West Coast Coffee Roasters", pastries from "Bread and Cie", cookies from "The Cravory", and sandwiches, protein trays, and yogurt parfaits from "Adam's Lunches".

Reservation is optional, but during peak hours they have limited reservations available. There are ground rules pertaining to the cats, and they must be followed. They have signs posted on the walls that show how the cats express discomfort with their tails and ears. Cats are not allowed to be held or picked up, because most dislike it. Any children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. If the noise level in the cat playpen gets too loud, a siren will go off. This lets people aware that they're being too noisy.

Cats at the cafe are potentially adoptable. "The Cat Cafe" partners with the San Diego Humane Society. Within the two years partnering with the San Diego Humane Society, 219 cats were sent to good homes. In February of 2017, they started bringing in cats from "The Rescue House". The cafe accepts almost any cat that needs to be adopted. They've had kittens, senior cats, cats with special needs and disabilities.

  1. Cat Cafes are so cool! I think it is a really amazing way to get people interested in adopting cats, and give people who can't have pets a way to still spend time with animals.
